Wastewater Treatment & Collection

The Sun Prairie Wastewater Treatment Facility treats approximately 4 million gallons per day coming from approximately 150 miles of underground sanitary sewer infrastructure. The Wastewater Treatment Facility and Collection System Department is committed to providing reliable and cost-effective sewer service to the community while protecting the environment.

Plant Expansion

We are excited to update you on some changes that are happening! The current facility last saw construction in 2020 and addressed low level phosphorus limits and increased liquid capacity. A new project is in the design phase that will address biosolids storage capacity and biosolids handling and will greatly reduce the volume of the biosolids in a very sustainable manner.

Developing a new facility plan and design has taken the Wastewater Treatment Plant about two years. A new plant expansion will take place in 2025, and these upgrades will be able to better serve the growing community. In conjunction with increased biosolids storage and handling capacity, the upgraded facility will also have redundant solids handling equipment. See the progress here.
