Sewer Bill Questions

Funding Usage

Sewer charges are billed monthly and are based on the amount of water you use. The fees collected are used to fund the operation and maintenance of the wastewater treatment plant and sanitary sewer collection system.

Fees are also used to fund equipment replacement, debt retirement, and capital projects associated with the treatment plant and collection system.

Rate Increase

In 2018, a sewer rate study was completed to determine if increases in rates were needed to fund the operation and maintenance of the treatment plant and sanitary sewer collection system. The study also reviewed capital and operational costs related to upcoming treatment plant upgrades scheduled to be completed in 2022. The City Council approved an 8.07% increase that will go into effect on January 1, 2019. The new rate will increased the average residential customer bill by $1.81 per month.

Monthly Charges

While the volume charge remains the same for all customers, the minimum monthly charges vary depending upon the water meter size. For Industrial customers generating a high strength wastewater, a special charge is calculated and added to their sewer bill. The minimum monthly charges based on meter size and volume charge are as follows:

Meter Size

2023 Minimum Rate

5/8 Inch

$12.33

1 Inch

$16.88

1 1/2 Inches

$24.64

2 Inches

3 Inches

4 Inches

Volume charge rate is $3.69/100 cubic feet, or 748 gallons of water used. Meter size is dependent on how much water is planned to be used on a daily basis.
