Municipal Court

Sun Prairie Municipal Court presides over matters that originate when a City of Sun Prairie police officer issues a citation (ticket) charging a person or entity with violating a city ordinance.

Cases often relate to one or more of the following areas:

  • Traffic or parking
  • First offense operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OWI)
  • Disorderly conduct
  • Retail theft
  • Issuing a worthless check
  • Drug or paraphernalia possession
  • Truancy
  • Underage alcohol or tobacco usage

Court is held on Wednesdays. Defendants are asked to come in at 8:30 a.m. to fill out a plea form. Those who plead not guilty will be able to meet with a city attorney for an in-person pretrial conference. Those who plead guilty or no contest will go before the judge when court begins at 9:00 a.m.

Truancies are heard in closed court at 10:00 a.m.
