Land use and development decisions can affect our community for decades. The Planning Department helps shape the physical environment by taking a long-term look at development opportunities in a way that balances competing public and private interests. We work with developers, neighborhood residents, and city boards and commissions to provide planning, zoning, and development information and recommendations.
Long-Range planning activities include the preparation and updating of planning policy documents, such as the City's Comprehensive Plan, which provides decision-makers with a community-wide vision and guide for future land use decision making.
Short-range planning activities include interpreting and enforcing zoning and subdivision regulations, reviewing and processing development proposals, technical and demographic research and analysis, interdepartmental and intergovernmental coordination and permit processing.
