The City began requiring a new type of permit in 2014 – a Zoning Permit. The permit is intended to help avoid unintentional zoning violations and all of the hassle that can be generated when such activities occur. The permit is required for all new building, building additions, changes of land use, and site alterations that occur in the City. Read more about this new requirement here.
The City Plan Commission is a nine-member body consisting of the mayor, two alderpersons, one member of the park and recreation commission, one member of the Sun Prairie area school district board, and four citizens. The Plan Commission serves as an advisory body to the City Council, making recommendations regarding zoning amendments, planned developments, conditional use permits, subdivision plats, and most certified survey maps. The Plan Commission is also responsible for the preparation and recommendation of the City’s comprehensive plan.
The Commission meets on the 2nd Tuesday of each month at 7:00 pm in the Council Chambers at the Sun Prairie Municipal Building, 300 E. Main Street. Special meetings are called on occasion when deemed necessary.
