City Administrator’s Corner
By: Aaron Oppenheimer, Sun Prairie City Administrator
Summer is here – but there is no break in sight for your City government! In fact, the summer months are some of our busiest here in Sun Prairie. As the season gets underway, I wanted to share a few important updates.
First, it’s road construction season! If you have driven around town recently, I’m sure you have noticed the uptick in orange cones and construction equipment. We have some exciting projects in the works, one of the most significant being Downtown Sun Prairie’s Main Street Reconstruction Project beginning mid-June and lasting through the fall. To see a full list of the ongoing and upcoming projects, visit www.cityofsunprairie.com/engineering where you’ll find a new map feature that showcases what areas of the City will be impacted.
We know that navigating construction during your commute can be frustrating, but we urge residents to practice patience and caution while traveling around Sun Prairie. And, if you are willing, brave the construction to support our local businesses during this time. Your continued support makes a real difference in helping to keep our local economy strong and vibrant.
This summer, the City Assessor’s Office will be conducting a revaluation on all properties in the City to ensure property taxes are distributed fairly and equitably. One thing to keep in mind – revaluations are completed on a regular basis, with the last one occurring in 2023, not to increase the total tax revenue the City can collect, but to make sure that each property is charged accurately. Additionally, the fact that a revaluation is occurring the same year as the referendum is simply a coincidence, and there is no connection between the two.
The revaluation values will be determined by mid-July, with notices being sent out to Sun Prairie households by the end of July. To learn more about this process and how it may impact your property, please visit our website or reach out to the City Assessor’s office at assessor@cityofsunprairie.com.
Finally, many of our elected officials have begun hosting Town Halls to discuss what’s next for the City budget following this spring’s failed referendum. We encourage the public to participate in the process by attending these public meetings and/or initiating direct outreach to elected officials. As always, your voice matters as we collectively make decisions for Sun Prairie.
