Recycle Center Information & Hours
The City Recycle Center is located at 1798 South Bird Street. The facility is available for use by City of Sun Prairie residents receiving city-sponsored automated curbside refuse / recycle collections. You must have a permit/sticker to use the facility.
MATERIALS WE DO ACCEPT:
- Mixed recycling (single-stream)
- Brush & yard waste
- Appliances without Freon
- Oil absorbents
- Oil filters
- Waste motor oil
- Antifreeze
- Scrap metal
- Cardboard (flattened)
MATERIALS WE DO NOT ACCEPT:
- Trash
- Freon appliances*
- Wood or plastic furniture
- Carpet or padding
- Wood or lumber
- Tires
- Tree stumps or root balls
- Porcelain, concrete, asphalt, rocks, bricks, blocks, fill materials
- Wreaths, garland, or roping
- Water softeners
- Paint or paint cans
- Propane cylinders
- Light bulbs
- Automotive batteries
- Pails and drums
- Electronics
*To dispose of refrigerant filled appliances such as refrigerators, freezers, or dehumidifiers please contact local appliance stores or scrap metal dealers for private disposal rates.
Multi-Family Dwelling / Commercial Properties
If you live in a multi-family dwelling or own commercial property, you are unable to use the Recycle Center. You cannot use the Recycle Center because these types of properties do not pay the special tax charge to do so, whereas the above mentioned properties do pay for its use.
Recycle Center Permits
City of Sun Prairie residents receiving city-sponsored automated curbside refuse / recycle collections can apply for a free permit to access the Recycle Center. Permits can be obtained by applying online and having them mailed to your home or by stopping at any of the following locations:
City Hall -- 300 E. Main Street
Sun Prairie Public Library --1350 Linnerud Drive
Westside Community Services Building (Police Department) 2598 W. Main Street
Hours
Winter Hours*
Following the first Saturday in December through the last Saturday in March
Monday: 3 to 5 p.m.
Spring/Summer Hours*
Following the last Saturday in March through the third Saturday in October
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Saturday: 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Fall Hours*
Following the third Saturday in October through the first Saturday in December
Monday, Wednesday, Friday: 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
Saturday: 8:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
