As the library continues to examine options for expansion, an immediate, pressing need is to find a way to provide teens with their own space in the library. Listed as a primary focus in surveys, discussion groups and among staff is the need for a designated teen space that allows this age group to find a place that meets their expectations and interests. Among the other concerns is the growing congestion on the shelves for materials of all kinds.
The best solution to these pressing concerns was a comprehensive shift of materials. Adult fiction materials, currently housed on the children’s side of the library, will be moved alongside adult nonfiction. Both collections will reside alongside the adult Information Desk. This shift will place adult print materials together and offer teens a space in the area of the East Tower.
These massive changes will take several months, including technological and furniture-type enhancements. Please accept our apologies, in advance, for the disruption. The service desks are a great place to find answers on where collections have moved or are moving and locating the materials that you seek. In the end, this move will provide a more commonsense approach to current collections housed at the library, and offer teens a sense of ownership at the Sun Prairie Public Library—a place that will appeal and be more sensitive to the needs of this age group.
